Routines: The Wheel & Games of Life

Route: Road: Way: Path

c. 1200, “a way, a road, space for passage,” from Old French rute “road, way, path” (12c.), from Latin rupta (via) “(a road) opened by force,” broken or cut through a forest, etc., from rupta, fem. past participle of rumpere “to break” (see rupture (n.)).

Routines can help us feel safely structured and secure in our daily existence and yet they can also bind us into rigid patterns that keep us from exploring new territory. We fall into them and fall out of them quite easily, while others never fade.

Which ones are supporting our best potentials and which ones are obstructing our growth?

I explore the topic of routines through the lens of the Akashic Records.

As usual, the Guardians of the Records shed light on this topic with a symbolic and metaphorical approach, always with a touch of humor.

This message is not about what foods and exercises are good for you, or the latest trend in health hacks. Rather, it’s a message about expressing yourself in the games of life.

Are you a player in the field of conscious evolution?

Do you feel like the game of life has you sidelined?

How do your thoughts and emotions create the grooves of your habits and routines?

Akashic Records Reading on Routines

What are routines and why do we need them?
Ordered Rhythmic Oscillations

The scene opens with sport players moving towards me, passing a plasma ring back and forth, like a ball. Playing sports games and feeling the rhythm of the ball and the exchange between the right and left hands. Intent focus on the other player, phase lock. The body in practice, routinely creates natural rhythm. Synchronized mind and body, open movement and adaptability, the change of positions, to pivot, to move freely and instinctually. Balance of the object with both sides of the body in coordination, focus of the mind, attention and awareness.

Repetition, oscillation, rhythm, momentum, self-propelled motion rather than meandering curiosity.

How do you know what is a healthy routine or not?
Vintage Film Projector

Your life is preserved in film slides, there is box labeled routines. Projected light through a framed piece of film is like seeing with various lenses. We try on routines and project onto the screen of our living art that we call life. As you view through the carousel of slides, discern the quality of the image to determine what’s vivid, high-definition routines. We can notice this by looking back into the records of different routines we’ve adopted and discarded throughout life.

Some routines were taken out of the carousel (the wheel of life) a long time ago and need to be updated. Put the scene back on the projector to play on the screen of your mind’s eye the conception moment you wanted to start a new routine. Feel in your body if it indicates it’s time to reintroduce the updated file back into your life. Reflect on the things you used to do, but don’t do anymore, that brought you joy.

For example, say you learned to play an instrument in your youth, and it brought you a deep satisfying sensation of bliss, but you stopped playing it at some point for whatever reason. This slide is up for a review. Bridge a link between that point in time and the present moment.

Sometimes routines get stuck in the terrain while building new tracks. A wheel easily moves along a well grooved path. It takes a lot of repetition to create that boundary to flow between. The wheel, or routine in this analogy, is bonded to the trajectory of well-worn pathways which can be beneficial or perhaps not.

Getting out of routines is like being sidelined. Frustration with one’s self, other people and the world. Missing out on what if feels like to be alive, not getting your needs met (maybe you haven’t considered what your needs even are). Hard on yourself for not being there for yourself. Guilt and shame, needing to cultivate more compassion and love for self.

Research into timeline of slides to find the activities and experiences that want to come back into play to help support you. Find the slides (routines) that are ready to be pulled out of the mix, the ones that are no longer serving you, nonbeneficial habits.

Another illustration is to see routine restoration like cleaning out your garage, digging into your stuff and sorting through those things you haven’t looked at in forever but they’re taking up a lot of space, drawing energy out of flow. You know… that piece of exercise equipment you bought because at the time you were motivated to start a new routine. You tried it out, it isn’t working for you, but you still have the thing in your garage. Get rid of it, create space to explore something else. You are retrieving the original inspired impulse to take action for yourself in a healthy way, rather than feeling guilty that you bought this thing that you don’t use. It is no longer a snag in your motivation.

Commentary on my routines from the Akash

My well-established grooves have many divergences as I’ve tried lots of different things, having a slight challenge with doing the same thing every day. I’m learning to balance the structure of my routines with playful flexibility. The steady central movement of my wheel of routines is a strong channel, as is the integrity of my intention for living an artfully healthy life. I understand, intellectually what needs to shift and change. Yet I do have some instability on the sides of the main tributary as I aim to anchor into the home of my body.

Why do we need routines?

We need routines so we can be in the game.

You want to be in the game and not sidelined in the game of life, right?

Routines and practice are structurally supportive activities. Providing consistent clear focus on the process of awakening and becoming the most agile strong player that you can be. An athletic mindset and way of being in body, full capacity. Each to their own degree of movements, sports, dancing, yoga…endless routines to be inspired with body, mind, soul.

Integrate fully in the game of life.

Order. Routines are laying down order in your life, generating security in your body, self-integrity and self-discovery. Established routines are an expressed desire to be in alignment with thoughts and through your actions. True intentions for your evolutionary growth.

Spontaneity and adaptability.

Fixed paths can become ridged, unlike the natural environment. Life changes come up and will challenge the order, structure that has been laid down. Like the sports game, you need adaptability in the bodies movement as you play the game. It’s all fun, team sports! Sometimes we get caught up in the moment of the game with serious intensity. Then afterwards we let down the phase lock with the other player and say, “Great game, thanks for playing!”. It becomes the practice. We practice and we just be at the same time. Practice is the rhythmic patterned movement that becomes the routine.

The human spirit appears to desire to improve itself by expressing different types of games, upping the game, introducing new moves, and playing in group dynamics. A personal routine is practiced by an individual who them brings this practiced skill to the collective to play. You’ve integrated the routine into yourself and express this in the way you are with others.

The more I follow through with my practice and routines the better I feel and when I go out into the world. I’m more open and friendly with others because I feel relaxed in my body and cared for.

Games are playful and accentuate adaptability. We can give ourselves a hard time about our routines, putting a damper on the good stuff. If you’ve decided you don’t like exercise, maybe you haven’t found the type of exercise that’s fun.

Routines are reflected in your vibrations, which sends a signal to attract more of it. If your health conscious, you’ll attract those types around you. If you are always looking to usurp your health-conscious self with nonbeneficial habits, you’ll likely attract the types who are supporting this behavior and join you.

What is your choice of rhythm and vibration?

What are your thought patterns that lay down tracks for your habits and routines?

If in your mind you are pondering how it used to make you feel when you were doing things you enjoyed and it makes sad now that you don’t, then don’t get stuck that way.

Creatively move into a new way to bring back routines that make you happy into wheel of games and fun. What did you used to do that you miss doing? For myself, I recently got a mountain bike. It sent me back to when I was a kid, first learning to ride. I remember the freedom and now I get to bring that elation back into my life.

What’s the most important message we need to know about routines?

You are doing it anyway. You have routines whether you are aware of them or not. You can use them, coordinate them, or they use you and coordinate you unconsciously.

Thank you for reading!

May your routines guide you into wholeness.
